Dr. Murphy was born and raised in Reno. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada Reno, then attended medical school at the University of Nevada School of Medicine before serving as a US Naval Reservist medical corpsman during Desert Storm. After completing five years of general surgery residency at the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, he completed two years of plastic surgery residency.
