Ultherapy: Benefits, Treatment and After-Care By James E. Murphy, MD on March 04, 2019

Ultherapy: Benefits, treatment and after care

Ultherapy is the only FDA cleared device used to non-invasively firm and tighten the skin. Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound energy to generate natural collagen and elastin within different layers of the skin. As we age we naturally lose both collagen and elastin within our skin which creates sagging and wrinkles. Ultherapy can dramatically restore a youthful and lifted appearance with as little as one treatment.

How does Ultherapy work?

Ultherapy uses time-tested ultrasound energy to lift and tighten the skin. Treating at several layers of the skins tissue provides the best result possible. Ultherapy jumpstarts the body’s natural regenerative process to create new healthy collagen and elastin in the skin. Our Ultherapy technicians carefully watch the Ultrasound monitor to ensure the energy is being delivered into the correct areas of the tissue to maximize results. Ultherapy takes anywhere from 3-6 months to see maximum results in your skin. This is a very natural treatment, which is non-invasive. This treatment bypasses the skins surface to ensure the right amount of energy, at the right temperature, into the right area.

The treatment:

Typically to start down the road to Ultherapy, patients will schedule a one on one consultation with an Ultherapy Professional to discuss if the treatment is a good choice, pricing and how the treatment will go as well as answer any questions the patient may have about the procedure. Following the consultation will be the treatment. At the beginning of the treatment the technician will mark out the areas that are being treated. Depending on which areas are being treated will determine the length of the treatment. After being marked out, the tech will place ultrasound gel on the area and use the hand piece to begin to deliver energy. During the treatment there may be some discomfort that varies per person and what their pain tolerance is. The discomfort will only last during the energy being delivered.

After care:

Post treatment, the patient will want to refrain from using any skincare products or makeup on their skin directly following the treatment. There is little to no downtime following the treatment. Some redness and swelling may be present and there is a possibility of welting. These side effects tend to reside within a few days following the treatment. Patients are free to resume back to their normal daily activities after the treatment. Following your treatment, we have you back for follow up appointments to take photos and track the progress of your skin.

Results:

Ultherapy takes anywhere from 3-6 months to see maximum results in your skin. Results vary per person and longevity will also vary per person. Because Ultherapy is stimulating the body’s own natural collagen, how long it lasts depends on the individual. Touch-up appointments may be beneficial to help with the natural aging process and help to maintain a youthful appearance.
