KYBELLA: A Non-surgical Way to Eliminate a Double Chin*
For patients frustrated with double chins that do not respond to diet or exercise, Dr. James E. Murphy offers KYBELLA® injections at his Reno, NV, office. This innovative injectable features a biocompatible material that breaks down submental fat (fat below the chin) to help patients achieve a more youthful and attractive appearance. Candidates
KYBELLA is a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved non-surgical treatment that is appropriate for both adult men and women who are seeking to eliminate a double chin. However, KYBELLA is only designed to remove fat tissue, not loose skin. In order to determine if you are a good candidate for KYBELLA, James E. Murphy, M.D. will examine your face and discuss your goals. If you currently have an infection in the treatment area, this will need to be addressed first before undergoing treatment with KYBELLA.
KYBELLA Results*
Benefits
KYBELLA offers a non-invasive way to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat under the chin. Rather than undergoing more extensive procedures, you can achieve outstanding results after only a few brief appointments. The active ingredient in KYBELLA is deoxycholic acid. This substance is naturally produced by the human body to support the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Once injected beneath the chin, the deoxycholic acid will cause fat cells to be destroyed, so they can no longer store or accumulate fat, making the need for re-treatment highly unlikely.
Undergoing Treatment with KYBELLA
KYBELLA injections are typically split into several sessions that are scheduled at least one month apart. Each session lasts around 15 minutes. The exact number of injections you receive will be personalized based on your unique goals and features. When you arrive at our practice for a treatment session, we will begin by cleaning and sterilizing the area around your chin. Next, your technician will apply small, temporary marks at each specific injection site. This helps to increase precision and minimize the possibility of any complications.

Most patients do not require a local anesthetic during treatment, but you may be asked to hold an ice pack against your chin briefly to numb the skin there. Once sufficiently prepared, most patients receive about 12 to 20 very small injections of KYBELLA during each session, though James E. Murphy, M.D. can determine the ideal amount based on your treatment goals. You can then immediately return to your normal routine without bandages or downtime, although it will take several days to recover completely. In most cases, the results of your treatment will become apparent within two to four sessions.
Risks
Like all treatments, KYBELLA does carry some potential side effects. You may notice swelling, bruising, temporary numbness, redness, or small areas of firmness around the treatment site after leaving your session. However, these effects should fade within a few days. If they last longer or seem unusually severe, contact our practice immediately.
